Opening night at La Scala
Sant'Ambrogio, Milan's own feast day, opens the opera season. In 2026 the curtain rises on Verdi's Otello — the first night of a new music director at La Scala.
The dress code
Floor length, quiet jewellery
The strictest evening in the Italian calendar. Full-length gowns, covered shoulders welcome, nothing that competes with the house. Darker tones are traditional.
